The start of a new week

The start of another week.  The start of another Monday. (I hear you sigh.)

How many Mondays, how many days, how many weeks of our lives do we waste wishing we were anywhere but here?  Heart sinking, spirits low, forcing ourselves to do something we no longer 'want' to do.

I often turn to some words of Maya Angelou when I'm in that state of wishing I was somewhere else.  She reminds us that we always have a choice of how to view our Mondays.

“If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.”

Worth a try?  See how it changes your Monday... and then the rest of the week.

That really is the trick, ain't it? Being able to change your mindset when all else fails. Been there, done that. I know that sometimes it's difficult to change the surroundings, so we have to change ourselves. Some people see this as hypocrisy, but what they fail to remember is that age old saying "Things don't change, we change".
So I totally agree. "If you can't change the scene, changing the way you are seeing." (Chortle, I just made that up!)

Maya Angelou is a favorite of mine. It was fun to find a quote here. And just to add to what has been said, if we don't continue to learn, grow and change, our brain cells literally shrink. That says it all...

Hi Stephen, it's good to hear from you. I think your version of this way of looking at the world is pretty nifty - I might well use it myself in the future - thanks!

Hi Robyn, it's good as always to hear from you, and to be reminded of the physical, chemical etc reasons for doing the things we do.

After two weeks with people of all ages (16 to 76) spending their holidays learning Gaelic - and seeing everyone totally thriving on the experience - I am more convinced than ever of the benefits to our well-being of a lifelong love and pursuit of learning.
