A few words on spring

The weather in Edinburgh has been stunning for the last few days - strong sunshine and unexpectedly warm temperatures.  That combined with the Easter weekend has been enough to signal the arrival of spring.  The burst of human activity -  lawns cut, front doors painted, houses going up for sale - that accompanies the amazing surge of energy, growth and new life that we see all around us in the natural world.

I was looking for a few words that would express the optimism, the relentlessness, the astonishing redemptive power of the spring.  This quote from Pablo Neruda captures it for me:

"You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming."

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, I hope you can find the space to enjoy the arrival of the spring.
